So, I've been noticing that even with our lower number we still end up with 'clashing' proficiency goals. I figured we should make a thread planning for the actual game. Now, you don't need to decide what your going to Master or anything, but knowing what everything is at least interested in would be very helpful for planning once we finish Alpha/Beta and get into the real game. If everyone could list the proficiencies they're interested in, maybe the ones they want to actually pursue, or even if they're stuck and don't know what they want! That way, we know what people are thinking and can coordinate and discuss. Here are mine! ((Here were mine more specifically, I edited them in the updated list.))

You don't need to list them like this, it's just an example.
Now, this might seem like a lot, but it's unlikely that once the real game comes around I'll be investing my time in all or even most of these. The only proficiency I will absolutely be doing is Husbandry, because I love it. Other then that, I was planning on Leatherwork and Alchemy, (especially Leatherwork, I really enjoy it) but I'd be willing to let someone else take that if that was their main goal. I listed things I was interested in, Like Cooking, Farming and Gathering since I'd be either doing those for the things I need (Alchemy, Husbandry, Leatherwork...) but I'd have the mats. I added Handicrafts and Commerce since I've found those are relevant. We didn't really have anyone doing Handicrafts (plus Husbandry needs it here and there) and Commerce is useful for selling my Leatherwork failures (and successes) and eventually higher Alchemy goods. Now, obviously other things sound cool, like Larceny and Composition, but that's more personal, I don't think I'd do that for the guild itself unless it came up and we needed someone.

I imagine once the game hits, we would need people with one (maybe two at most) things they focus on until we get our high level proficiencies. At that point, we won't need as much labor since we'll just be crafting, not leveling. While some might, and others might want to have the same proficiency as someone else, this way we know. We won't take Handicrafts just because we don't think anyone else did, we'll just take it because we want it.

TL/DR: Please list the proficiencies you're interested in, plan on doing, or will do not matter what because screw it you love the idea, once that game hits! That way we can discuss who does what and what people are planning on/want to do.

I'll update this post as others do, so we know who wants what in one post.

Great idea for a post.

I will absolutely be doing Alchemy day one.

I will likely look at Machining or Handicrafts down the road, and do whichever is more interesting/profitable. If one was needed in the guild, I'd be willing to do that for the greater good. I'll probably want to build ships and other things, so I might lean Machining.

I like farming and gathering (ie planting of any kind).

I will probably fish to have an excuse to sail more.

I will end up with commerce, mining, and some carpentry in the course of gathering materials and trading, but only commerce actually sounds fun to me.

I do not have any interest in husbandry, armor making of any flavor, or cooking. I would gladly farm mats for other people so that I never had to do those things.

I have been struggling with finding what I want to specialize in. I've been looking into a few to check them out. I like being on the water and the thought of fishing sounds like fun but I've not explored it fully. I'm currently leveling up Cooking because I have enough farm space now to supplement my daily needs. It's using up so much labor though so I don't really have room for much else after. Of course cooking seems to go hand-in-hand with Husbandry. Which I haven't gone much into... GAH! If I get my other large farm space this weekend, I'm gonna use it for Husbandry and see if I can make them both work together.

At launch I'm still not sure what I should go after. I'm open to suggestions obviously. I plan to acquire a small farming empire in launch assuming I can get the space close together. No more running around to plots everywhere!

I'm mastering carpentry/construction and leveling logging. I can use any and all logs, even if you're just sending them to me to turn them to lumber.

If you're going to mail me, please write the amount of logs you're sending me in the mail, and whether you want them back.

It's decided finally. I've been toying with Cooking for a few days now and I've looked more into it and the high end cook food is definitely worth the investment. So I will be specializing in Cooking/Husbandry with Farming/Gathering on the side. This will require a few large farm spots, a house and eventually an aquafarm too. If I've been able to secure multiple large farms in this overcrowded Alpha server all together in a small space... I am confident I can do the same in the launch servers.

I will base my operations out of Solis. It's Arid which is probably the least favorite of the temperate climates which increases my odds of achieving my goal but the extra time for harvesting/gathering is not so much that it'll detract me. I work full time and I get up early enough to do my gathering/farming before work.

It feels good to have a purpose and idea of what I want now. =)

My wife and I usually specialize in Gathering first and then crafting later.

She will be doing an Aqua Farm at Lauch so that we get the Green Coral that we need as a whole. Since each one yields 2-4 and you need nine for a Farmer's Workstation, 1 person at launch can cover this.

I will be specializing in Lumber at Launch. I imagine I can generate between 600 and 900 logs each day for the first few days if all goes well. I also know a few good places for illegal farms, so that will help.

so far I like mineing an fishing, have only done bait so far but sport seems like it will be fun an I like mining b/c I can move around alot an everyone needs stone an ores + the gems and arcume ore go well with making lures.

Since I will be going into launch with two alpha accounts my primary starting focus will be securing multiple land close together. I will probably not focus on cooking at all for the first two or three weeks. I will be working on get enough gold early on to reserve land space. I will try to plant banana trees as soon as possible for the guild nana runs.
I am finding I enjoy being a land owner and having a labor mule for the secondary account. I think I'll be able to help the guild out with our farming needs, especially early on.
I tend to do well with it, even tracking harvest times so that I can harvest the most I can each day.
I'll be farming yew as well. We're going to need a lot of wood early on.

Ok, I’m guessing I will be the odd man out on this. I really don’t like any of the Crafting disciplines (and normally don’t on most games). I may do metalwork out of necessity and make basic potions but I wouldn’t call it an interest.

I will however be doing as many gathering disciplines as I can get my hands on… and I’m happy to share some of my mats for a large discount or an IOU as long as I have them. (Ask quickly before I sell)

Okay, updated again!

These are good things to know for when the game comes out.  Very Happy

So, Dusk, generally most people are pretty free with their professions, so if you need Metalwork/Alchemy and our people who do it are on (and either you or they have the mats, it depends) they'll pretty much be cool with crafting for you if you don't want to deal with those skills.

Also, no worries about being the odd man out! Mahi refuses to do all the armor crafting skills too.

I may switch mine to farming/gather and fishing. I like being able to plant bundles and just give away that stuff an keep the worms to fish an that makes enough money to keep the cycle going, an we seem to have a lot of people that want to mine also.

I will focus on hosting multiple trade runs so I can make the packs for everyone so I caj level commerce. As well as I will be doing gathering/farming/husbandry for mats for packs. All rare items from said prof will be donated towards the guild.

I'll be training Handicrafting on my little healy-alt, Cortillaen. I've got enough Rose bundles to last me till the apocalypse, though I could use people's help in harvesting them to save my LP for the crafting. I'm working on setting up a chest so I don't have to be on for someone to accept the harvested goods, and I'll leave bundles in there for anyone who feels like replanting when they're done.
